New Student Information

Each year, St Norbert College welcomes approximately 160 Year 7 students, as well as a number of new students entering other year groups.

Our online Parent and Student Information Handbook, updated regularly, contains everything new families need to know about the College and its offerings.

Towards the end of the year, we hold a New Student Information Evening for families joining the College the following year. Should you need to refer back to any information, the presentations from both the introduction and breakout sessions are made available following the New Student Information Evening.

MacBook Program

We’re committed to providing a progressive learning environment and the parent-funded 1:1 MacBook Program is an integral component of the learning program.

St Norbert College has partnered with Winthrop Australia for the MacBook Program. Depending on what will best meet your child’s needs, families are asked to purchase or lease a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air and whilst we’re partnered with Winthrop Australia, these can be purchased from any retailer. For more information, please visit the Winthrop Australia website.

Year 7

Our Year 7 students participate in a number of programs, under the guidance of the Head of Year 7, to ensure their transition into secondary school is as smooth as possible.

Orientation Day

Orientation Day is held when our incoming Year 7 students are in Year 6. It’s an enjoyable day, held at the end of Term 4, that allows students to familiarise themselves with secondary school.

Their day begins in the designated Year 7 building, the Br Patrick Doolan Centre. All core subjects for Year 7 students take place in the Br Patrick Doolan Centre with students only leaving to visit the Science laboratories and other buildings for elective classes. While the students gain information about the College and general procedures from Year 12 student leaders, Heads of House and specialist staff, they also participate in a number of activities.

Induction Day

Induction Day is held on the first day of school. New students, as well as our Year 11 and 12 students, commence the day prior to other students, so they can move around the school and experience daily procedures before most students return. This allows students to become familiar with the use of lockers, their timetables, locating classrooms and organising their books and equipment. Students receive support from student leaders, Head of Year 7, Heads of House, homeroom teachers and classroom teachers on the day.

Transition Program

A Transition Program is implemented for the first term of school. During this time, classroom teachers work with the Head of Year 7 to assist Year 7 students with settling in. This includes the use of diaries, individual teacher expectations, class routines, use of laptops, use of books and equipment, peer support, and strategies to overcome challenges and concerns.

At the end of the Transition Program, Year 7 students participate in an Activity Day and Retreat. For half a day, they participate in outdoor activities encouraging students to improve their teamwork, trust-building, problem-solving and communication skills. It’s a great opportunity for students to learn more about their peers and develop relationships. As part of our Student Ministry Program, Year 7 students also attend a half day retreat, where they have the opportunity to reflect upon who they are and how they relate to others. They participate in a range of activities and prayerful experiences that lead to self-discovery and searching for traces of God in their lives.
