Talented Young Performers Set For Youthfest

Budding young actors will converge upon St Norbert College later this month for Youthfest, a part of the Independent Theatre Association’s WA One Act Drama Festival.

The Festival is the largest showcase of WA talent on the stage, allowing performers, directors, producers and technical crew to produce short works in front of a live audience.

Held on September 16 and 17, the event has already attracted entries from locations across Perth, including Sawyers Valley, Stirling, Roleystone and Floreat.

This year’s event will publically showcase the brand new, state-of-the-art Performing Arts Centre at St Norbert College, which was officially opened earlier this year.

The new building includes a dance studio that doubles as a green room, a music classroom with multiple practice rooms, dressing rooms, and an external amphitheatre for outdoor performances.

President of the Independent Theatre Association Ryan Taaffe said he was looking forward to seeing performers use the new venue.

“St Norbert College has a history of supporting youth in performance and with the opening of the new centre it seemed like the opportune time to showcase the facility,” he said. “It will allow the opportunity for young people to work in a modern facility for the performing arts.”

Mr Taaffe said the weekend would provide a great opportunity for youth to demonstrate their talent and receive constructive feedback from industry professionals.

“The event should be a learning experience for all those involved and a chance for young participants to perform outside their normal environment and experience new audiences and ideas, and to be exposed to new ways of presenting work,” he said.
