Simon Harvey appointed Principal of St Norbert College

St Norbert College alumnus Simon Harvey will return to his former school as principal next month, becoming the first former student to take charge of the Queens Park school.

Mr Harvey will be the eighth principal in the 52-year history of St Norbert College, replacing current principal Annette Morey, who has been appointed principal of Mater Dei College in Edgewater.

Currently on a short-term principalship at St Luke’s Catholic College in Karratha, Mr Harvey said he was excited to be returning to St Norbert College in a leadership capacity.

“The school community is built on the wonderful contributions of past and present staff, students, families and the Norbertines, and I hope I can add positively to this,” he said.

After graduating from St Norbert College in 1988, Mr Harvey has taught at numerous Catholic schools in WA, including Emmanuel Catholic College and Trinity College as Deputy Principal, as well as filling the role of Vice Principal at Chisholm Catholic College. He also taught at St Norbert College from 1999 to 2007.

College Prior Fr Peter Stiglich O Praem said he was thrilled to have Mr Harvey on board.

“Simon brings an enthusiasm for teaching and learning; and an expertise in pastoral care,” he said. “He understands that in Catholic schooling, the education of the whole person, as created in God’s image, is truly important.”

Mr Harvey said his philosophy on education revolved around the idea of education being more than just an academic experience for students.

“Education must focus on what is in the best interests of all students and their development as whole persons,” he said.

“Schools must continuously look to broaden the experiences of our students to equip them with the skills to make positive contributions in our society and to strive to be the best they can be.”
