Students to showcase creative talents at annual exhibition

More than 400 outstanding pieces of student artwork will be showcased at St Norbert College next week as part of the school’s annual Creative and Performing Arts Exhibition.

Running from September 5-8, the exhibition will highlight the talents of students from all year levels in the creative arts subjects, with numerous monetary prizes on offer.

Head of Digital and Design Technologies, and Visual Art at St Norbert College Samantha Mark said the artworks displayed would be diverse and of the highest quality.

“There’ll be everything from paintings, posters, sculptures, fashion, furniture, utensils, websites and robotics to decorated cakes,” Mrs Mark said.

“There will be some very strong digital work – be that websites, photos or graphics. There are some strong paintings as well, especially from the Year 10s. The Year 9 sneaker culture work will make a striking display, as there’s a combination of sculpture and sketches. There will be some interesting wool felt art as well.”

The opening night of the exhibition will be followed by the school’s Performing Arts Showcase – an action-packed dance, drama and musical extravaganza, with more than 130 students involved in the performances.

Drama teacher Kerri Hilton said the students and staff involved had put in an enormous amount of work preparing for the event.

“There is an amazing array of talent and the night will show the talents of so many students in a very small amount of time,” she said.

“It is a night of quite astounding variety. Audiences will be treated to a dance, then a musical item then a drama item and it will truly be a range of performances and performers.”
