Annette Morey departs as Principal

Outgoing St Norbert College principal Annette Morey says she leaves the school with many fond memories, more than five years after commencing in the role.

Mrs Morey farewelled the St Norbert College community on June 30 at a school assembly, with new principal Simon Harvey set to take charge when school resumes on July 18.

Mrs Morey said she had greatly enjoyed her time at the school and cherished being a part of the school community.

“Many families comment at enrolment interviews that the College ‘feels different’ to other schools,” she said. “The point of difference is the overwhelming sense of community that we take for granted.  It is something to celebrate and nurture moving forward.

“I have been enriched personally and professionally from the generosity of the St Norbert College community.”

Since her arrival at the Queens Park school at the start of 2012, Mrs Morey has witnessed a sustained improvement in the College’s academic standards – something she remains especially proud of.

“While academic results are not the only measure of a good school, it is an indication of a positive school culture based on community, respect, relationships and a thirst for learning,” she said.

Kilnacrott House Captain and Year 12 student Abbey Wheeler thanked Mrs Morey for her leadership and friendship on behalf of the entire student body.

“Mrs Morey is a very special person to the graduating class of 2017. She was the new principal when we started our journey at St Norbert College together,” she said.

“Every one of us has seen Mrs Morey walking around the school and talking to us. Many principals would simply stay in their office and only talk to students when they are in trouble but [Mrs Morey] has always been really keen to get to know us and find out who we really are.”

Mrs Morey will commence in her new role as principal of Mater Dei College in Edgewater next month.
